Senior AI Engineer (LLMs & Agents)

Swapday is building a smarter marketplace to make it easier for people across India to find, buy and sell locally.

We’re looking for a Senior AI Engineer who can take ownership of our AI architecture and build reliable, scalable systems for production.

What you’ll do

• Design and build production-grade AI agents powered by large language models (LLMs).
• Develop multi-agent workflows, tool-calling systems and autonomous task execution.
• Build retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines using embeddings, vector databases and semantic search.
• Integrate models such as OpenAI GPT, Claude, Gemini and open-source models.
• Design smart search, recommendations, automated listings and conversational assistants.
• Build scalable AI services and APIs using Python and FastAPI.
• Set up evaluations, monitoring, guardrails and observability for AI systems.
• Optimize inference latency, token usage and infrastructure costs.
• Work with the founders to define AI strategy and technical architecture.
• Mentor engineers and establish AI engineering practices.

Required skills

• 5+ years of relevant software engineering or machine learning experience.
• Strong Python and backend engineering skills.
• Hands-on experience building and deploying LLM applications.
• Experience with agent frameworks such as LangGraph, LangChain or similar tools.
• Understanding of RAG, embeddings, vector search and retrieval strategies.
• Experience with tool calling, structured outputs and orchestration.
• Knowledge of cloud infrastructure, Docker, APIs and scalable architectures.
• Experience testing, evaluating and monitoring AI systems in production.
• Strong system design, debugging and problem-solving skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with multi-agent systems and Model Context Protocol (MCP).
• Familiarity with fine-tuning, LoRA or open-source model deployment.
• Experience with Pinecone, Weaviate, Qdrant, pgvector or similar tools.
• Knowledge of recommendation systems, multimodal AI or computer vision.
• Experience in startups, marketplaces or e-commerce.
• Experience leading AI projects from prototype to production.
